Riccardo Muti is an Italian conductor.
From 1968 to 1980, he served as principal conductor and music director of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and from 1986 to 2005, he was music director of La Scala in Milan, where he conducted Don Giovanni, Idomeneo, and The Magic Flute during the opening nights of the season.
Since 2010, he has served as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has renewed his contract through the summer of 2023.
In 2015, he founded the “Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy,” an international academy where students of conducting, accompanists, and opera singers selected by a committee can further their training.
