2 euro commemorative dedicated to the 125th Anniversary of Pope Paul VI, BU.
Giovanni Battista Montini, born in Concesio in 1897, was elected pope in 1963 taking the name Paul VI.
It was he who prepared the draft of the extreme but useless appeal for peace that Pope Pacelli launched on the radio on August 24, 1939, on the eve of the world war: Nothing is lost with peace! Everything can be so with war».
He conducted the work of the Council with careful mediation, favoring and moderating the reforming majority, until the conclusion of 8 December 1965 and preceded by the mutual revocation of the excommunications that occurred in 1054 between Rome and Constantinople.
