2 euro commemorative dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Treaty of Burgos, PROOF.

The Treaty of Burgos was signed in 1524 between Monaco and Spain, according to which Monaco became a protectorate of the Habsburg Empire.
At the beginning of the 16th century, Monaco gained sovereignty and was recognized by neighboring states, but this did not protect Monaco from attacks by its neighbors. In 1506-1507 he had to withstand a 102-day siege by Genoese troops. The danger of invasion continued further, so the lords of Monaco began to seek support from neighboring stronger monarchies. The strongest powers of that time in Western Europe were the Kingdom of France, led by King Francis I, and the Habsburg Empire, led by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain. Since Francis I was an ally of Genoa, Lucien Grimaldi, Lord of Monaco, chose a Spanish course in his policy and began to negotiate with the court of Emperor Charles V.
