Rainieri III of Monaco was Sovereign Prince of Monaco from 1949 to 2005. Rainier held the Principality of Monaco for almost 56 years, which made him one of the most long-standing rulers on their throne in European history.
In 1956 he married the famous American actress Grace Kelly, attracting media attention around the world to the small principality, and they had three children together; their marriage lasted until 1982, the year in which she died in a car accident.
