The Carladès is an ancient fief of the House of Grimaldi in Monaco. In 1643, the viscount of Carlat, together with the surrounding lands, was elevated to county of Carladès by Louis XIII of France and granted to Honoré II Grimaldi, as stipulated in the treaty of Péronne, which placed Monaco under the protection of France. 
Carladès, located in the present-day department of Aveyron in France, became a significant fief for the Grimaldis, strengthening their ties with France and their status as important feudal lords. The Carladès concession was a recognition of the Grimaldi’s support for the French crown, particularly during the war with Spain. 
The Grimaldi family, originally from Genoa, has reigned in Monaco since the 14th century and has maintained historical ties with France through feuds such as Carladès and the Duchy of Valentinois, obtained thanks to the Treaty of Péronne. The visit of Prince Albert II to Irsina, another fief of the Grimaldis, underlines the importance of these historical and cultural ties.
