Official coin set BU with 8 coins, from 1 cent to 2 euro, dedicated to the Native Irish Honey Bee.
There has been a world-wide decline in all bee species in recent years. Habitat loss, intensification of agriculture and use of pesticides have resulted in “a crisis in Irish bees”. This has led to serious concerns about their essential pollinator role and the drastic effect that their decline could have on biodiversity and food production. To counteract this, the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan was established by the National Biodiversity Data Centre in 2015.
