Above the letter D, there is the initials of the issuing country RF (for French Republic). The legend 70e ANNIVERSAIRE DU DÉBARQUEMENT crosses the coin horizontally. Under, boot prints of American and British army's are erased by a wave. The sentence "Chanson d'automne" of Paul Verlaine, "Les sanglots longs des violons de l'automne blessent mon cœur d'une langueur monotone" is shown in the wave. The outer ring of the coin shows the twelve stars of the European flag.
