The meeting with St. Francis, especially at the Convento Le Carceri, makes him take the decision to become a Capuchin. At the age of 19 he entered the Capuchin convent of Lyon. In 1942 an intense rescue action began for the victims of Nazi tyranny. It is on this occasion that Abbé Groués becomes Abbé Pierre. Pierre saves several people (Jews, Poles) sought by the Gestapo.
