It is held every 5 years in July at the Auditorium of the Estonian Song Festival in Tallinn, Estonia.
The Festival has its origins in the mid-nineteenth century.
In the summer of 1869 the first edition took place in Tartu.
The Festival of the Estonian Song was proclaimed Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003 and 2008.
