Pio da Pietrelcina, better known as Padre Pio, was an Italian presbyter of the Order of Capuchin Minor Friars. The Catholic Church venerates it as a saint and celebrates its liturgical memorial on September 23rd, the anniversary of death. During his lifetime he was the recipient of a popular veneration of imposing proportions, also following the fame of thaumaturgist attributed to him by the devotees, as well as being the subject of harsh criticism in ecclesiastical and non ecclesiastical circles.
