Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer, mathematician and religious.
He became famous for having championed, defended, and eventually definitively promoted the evidence of the heliocentric system against the geocentric system until then advocated in Europe.
Although he was not the first to formulate such a theory, it was the scientist who most rigorously succeeded in demonstrating it through mathematical procedures. Copernicus was also an ecclesiastical, jurist, governor and physician.
