2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to Lithuania as a European model in the race toward energy independence, UNC.
The journey began strategically in 2014 with the inauguration of the floating LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal named “Independence,” which ensures the security of gas supplies.
The decisive turning point came in 2022, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prompted Lithuania to become the first EU country to completely halt imports of Russian gas. At the same time, the country significantly accelerated its green energy transition, with a veritable boom in renewable energy—particularly solar and wind power—driven by the ambitious goal of achieving a cleaner and more resilient energy system.
Another crucial milestone was reached with the complete disconnection from the Russian power grid and simultaneous synchronization with the European grid; this transition took place in February 2025 and marked the definitive separation of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia from the power grids of Russia and Belarus.
