The Trevi Fountain is the largest fountain in Rome. It was built on the facade of Palazzo Poli by Nicola Salvi. Construction began in 1732; after Salvi's death the works were directed by Pietro Bracci and his son Virginio. The two completed the work, inaugurated in 1762. The theme of the entire composition is the sea. The scenography is dominated by a rocky cliff that occupies the entire lower part of the building, in the center of which we find a large niche bordered by columns that makes it stand out as if it were under a triumphal arch. Here stands a large statue of Ocean pulled by two winged horses.
