The Cuerpo Nacional de Policía (National Police Force), commonly abbreviated as CNP, is a Spanish police force of a civilian nature, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior.
It was created in 1978 during the Spanish democratic transition to replace the Cuerpo de Policía Armada y de Tráfico of Francoist Spain. The current structure and name derives directly from the Spanish Constitution.
