Thomas Aquinas was an Italian religious, theologian and philosopher.
Dominican friar, main exponent of the scholasticism, was already defined Doctor Angelicus by his contemporaries.
He was proclaimed a saint by Pope John XXII in 1323 and from 1567 is counted among the doctors of the Church. In 1880 he was declared patron saint of Catholic universities and study centers.

Thomas represents one of the main theological and philosophical pillars of the Catholic Church, also resulting in the connection between Christianity and classical philosophy, which has its foundations and teachers in Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, and then passed through the Hellenistic period, especially in authors like Plotinus. He developed a theory of law that was widely followed in later centuries.
Saint Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest philosophers of the Western world.
