This is the last coin in the "Maltese Prehistoric Sites" series.
The hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni is an underground structure excavated between about 3600 B.C. and 2500 B.C. in Paola, on the island of Malta. It is believed that originally it was a sanctuary, which became a necropolis in prehistoric times. It is considered the only underground prehistoric temple in the world.
It was discovered by chance in 1902, when workers who were cutting tanks for new homes broke the ceiling.
