2 euro commemorative coin, UNC.
At the center of the coin it is depicted a composition of letters forming the word "EMONA" or "Aemona" and a stylized plant of the Emona fortress. Emona (in Latin, Aemona) was founded by the Romans on a pre-existing Celtic site of Taurisci, as Aemona Iulia, became an important and permanent legionary fortress at the beginning of the first century (around 14), at the end of the Uprising Dalmatian-Pannonian 6-9. The site had been used, however, even 50 years ago by the Romans (perhaps even with continuity in later years), as legionary fortress during the military campaigns of Octavian in Illyria (35-33 BC).
