2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Italian regions.
In fact, while the regions with special status have already existed since 1948, those with ordinary status were established only in 1970.
Their creation took place with the Ordinary Law No. 281 of 16 May 1970. With it, the administrative decentralization envisaged by Articles 5 and 118 of the Italian Constitution was initiated.
