Väinö Valtteri Linna was a Finnish writer and academic.
1947 is the date that marks Linna's literary debut, with the autobiographical novel Päämäärä. He had previously delivered a collection of poems to a publisher, but the work had not been published.
His frank realism in the face of war, his often dialectical and humorous language, his vision of history as a multifaceted phenomenon (following Nietzsche's thought), determined his great fortune, as evidenced by various cinematographic and theatrical transpositions.
