The 1968 revolt is a socio-cultural phenomenon that occurred in the years around 1968, where large socially heterogeneous mass movements (workers, students and minority ethnic groups), often formed by spontaneous aggregation, affected almost all the countries of the world with the their strong charge of protest against socio-political prejudices. The "Walenbuiten" of Flemish students in Leuven in February 1968 threw the country into a crisis of an unprecedented (until then) 132-day duration. The revolt led to the fall of Paul Vanden Boeynants' government and to a political crisis that also involved state structures.
